All links are automatically scanned at two-monthly intervals by link checking software. Any links identified in that check as faulty are then checked manually and either repaired or moved into the "where have they gone" section pending deletion. However before you shout at me/us please remember that a dead link is entirely the fault of the site that has gone without leaving a forwarding message on their old site! If you maintain a website please remember that we don't know if you move home and cannot mind read! Where information is left on outdated links giving the replacement URL the link is corrected. A big thank you to those sensible webmasters. Unfortunately I do find messages like this "This website has been removed. If you have a bookmark or a link to this page, please remove these as this page will disappear shortly." Recent activity on page - 5 May - two new links added. 3 Apr 08 - two additional links added, one moved back from where have they gone? into the main list and one existing link revised to a notified new/replacement URL.. 27 & 28 Mar 08 - (1) New links added including the RCTS and several new rail franchisees. (2) Automated links checker run. Two duff links identified and repaired, one to be manually re-checked/corrected and one deleted. Where've they gone section? updated. (3) Page header revised to include society logos. 2 Mar 08. Check of existing links. 2 Dec 07 - Several additonal links added relating to modelling narrow gauge and miniature prototypes plus a section on model making with card under C. All the dead Where've they gone section? entries from mid-October were still dead on retesting today. They are not therefore suffering from short term "technicals" and will therefore be deleted, if still dead/untraceable, when I make the next update and full links test to this page. They can now be considered gone for good.. 21st Oct '07- New links added covering locomotive oddities, miniature lines, Sir Arthur Heywood and additional preserved steam railways. All the links moved to the Where've they gone section? following the testing for the 16th October update retested and two of those sites now reinstated. (A changed URL traced and a previously faulty link found to be active indicating that site had only experienced a temporary fault)
Updated to 28 March 2008 - entries below were deleted or moved into this section pending future deletion for the reasons stated.
